Assisted Listening Systems (Hearing Loops)
Under new ADA Guidelines effective March 2012. To be compliant in assembly areas, you are required to provide an assisted listening system or hearing loop system even for gatherings of 50 or less.
A hearing loop (transmitter) creates an electromagnetic field that is received by a T-coil (receiver) in a hearing aid and converted to audible sound. This is used to allow the hearing-impaired to hear exactly what is being transmitted from the venue’s microphone or audio source (television, home stereo, etc.).
What types of venues should be looped?
Homes, Airports, Schools, Theaters, Libraries, Museums, Courtrooms, Concert Halls, Auditoriums, Senior Centers, Ticket Windows, Conference Rooms, Houses of Worship, Banks & Pharmacies, Drive Through Windows
